Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Bahrain, in collaboration with Ministry of Youth & Sports Affairs, organized a workshop on the 2nd of February, 2016 to raise awareness on online safety. The workshop was held at Salman Cultural Center as part of “I am the Future” Spring Camp which was attended by 95 children, ages 9 to 15.

“The Internet has drastically changed the way that children interact with the world.” states Ms. Mariam Al Mannai, Manager of Cyber Safety at TRA. She continued on to state that “They have access to in-depth knowledge, tools to express their creativity, and connect with people from all over the world. Yet along with offering a fascinating, new way to connect with the world, the Internet also offers new risks, which were discussed in the workshop.”

The Online Safety workshop covered a variety of subjects including; Identifying what personal information is, how to safeguard it, who to consider strangers online, internet sharing and internet etiquette, how to browse and download safely, safe use of social media and raising awareness about cyber bullying.

Since 2010, TRA has been focusing on its initiative of spreading cyber safety knowledge to children, parents and in schools, and has it as its priority to support all entities willing to collaborate on this matter, through workshops, lectures, focus groups and partnerships.
